Default 1ST DRAGOONS

Hi all, good morning.

Wanted to ask if anyone had some thoughts on this one. I've had it some time in my cavalry album, and no one has left any comments that it is questionable. I just picked up a three lugged one, and was considering selling this one.
But I wouldn't want to sell it unless I felt it was OK.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

Cheers

Simon.

Simon,
Thanks to another forum member I have his RD collection - they are just not in my album yet.
Griff would probably be the best person.
For whats it worth. The rear looks ok. The Lions eyes are a bit strange - "glassy" looking as it were. Morning after the night before etc.... Most of the lugged ones I have are x3 lugged versions and don't look too dis-similar to your one. The link between the tail and head on mine is long - as it is on your 2 lugged one. At the minute, I can't find any x2 lugged versions. Which may or may be significant. The lug fittings between the scroll and crown seem the same as well.
I would tend to let Griff cast an opinion, but to me, it looks ok.
One of these days I will sort mine out. Good luck, David

It looks OK to me, it doesn't seem to have any of the usual irregularities that copies have, but I could be wrong.

Thanks to both of you for the input and the positive thumbs up. Hopefully by the end of the day it will be unanimous.

Cheers

Simon.

Hi Griff

No, I picked up a 3 loop that was definitely OK.

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ictureid=91984

As I had doubts on this one.

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ictureid=80361

Now I have two, I was considering selling the slidered one; and keep the three loop. But so far the slidered one's seems to be getting an OK. So not sure which one now to sell......

Cheers

Simon.

I think this one is WW2/Cold War only (still waiting to find a photo of it in use?)

KC 1RD

As seen in F. Wilkinson's book "Cavalry and Yeomanry Badges of the British Army 1914 - 1971 Edition", page 13, Fig 22.

Also seen in Peter Doyle & Chris Foster's book "British Army cap Badges of the First World War", Page 41.

Thanks Griff

I'll keep that handy for when I come across one with a slider. Seems the crimp is a big positive for the Great War period in general.

Cheers

Simon.

This is a plated 1RD bi-metal badge from a Boer War Collection (the whole collection had been plated)..... and as you can see its the same as the above... probably with loops.

Thanks Griff

I think I'll keep both for now, until I find a Great War version.

Simon

I forgot to mention, I did find this image the other day..... I think could possibly be a WW2 FFSCap for the 1RD ORs. The badge looks encouraging but it could have been swapped about over the years? I hope to find a WW2 photo with this in use.

Of course it might also be a replica for re-enactment (its very blue..... the blue)?
