Default Cardiff, Connaught, Gurkha, Fusilier- Royal & Irish, Finsbury Rifles,Surrey Rifles..

Afternoon all,

I'd greatly appreciate your opinions on the badges attached please? I picked them up amongst a large lot of badges, the rest of which I'm happy with.

Are they good, genuine examples or not? Also if anyone can tell me what the Cardiff badge is (cap or collar?) that'd be great. The 5th Border Regt badge is an awful mess from behind and looks cast. Please be as blunt as you like!!

Hello Pete,

I'm sorry to say that your Finsbury Rifles is a wrong 'un. It has the small blob just below the 'A' in 'ARIS' which is commonly accepted as a sign of a bad 11th London (circled in red, below):

Aris Fault.jpg

The Royal Fusiliers badge is likely to be a collar badge, having E/W lugs... they are the same size as the cap badge. I'd be happier seeing it in the flesh before commenting as to whether it is 'good or bad'.

The 21st London is a bit more difficult to see, but I have to confess to not liking the slider very much. It has that 1970s repro look to it.

As for the remainder, perhaps members with more knowledge of these badges will be able to assist.

All the best,

Peter.

The 4th Gurkhas is a modern repro as well I'm afraid.

In general I have to say, I would pass on them all.......based on the comments made and the look of the rest of them.

Regards

Simon.

The Cardiff's is, in my opinion, a repro, far too shiny. There are some excellent threads on the forum about these and few are good. I'm afraid that I'm not buzzing on any of these. Sorry mate

Don't like the look of any of them, but they could fill gaps in a collection.

Would tend to agree with the guys overall, and I would pass on them in general. The Connaughts looks very thin, but I would like to see a better closer photo of the front and back of it if you have it, please.

Regards,

Dave

Thanks for the replies so far chaps - I'm not too disappointed or surprised (said through gritted teeth !). Out of the 120+ badges I was shown today I only took away 30 or so, and I have to say that if I hadn't learnt a few things from this forum I would have probably had a few more duff ones

Attached some better pics of the Connaught Rangers. Thanks again for the advice.

Pete

No problem Mike, and thanks to you all for the advice. I'm not too bothered about the others but I really liked this one - I even had a bit of a shining parade the other evening, so gave it once over - no genie appeared though.
