Default interesting and never issued badge

hi all
following on from a previous thread, i remembered i had this rubber impression of what i believe was a proposed badge that never was issued. i believe the sample comes from an original die.
there were many such dies made i believe and many/most were destroyed when rejected, but some obviously survived. an interesting part of our military history.
seems the 71st Battalion (City of Ballarat Regiment) redesignated the 70th Battalion (City of Ballarat Regiment) in 1912 and then the war came and maybe the badge never had time to be produced?
