I wouldn't get excited about Tassie bc, the state has been stripped of every decent piece of militaria that's not in one of the private collections here and it's mostly firearms in the April show. Most of the older dealers in badges/militaria are out of the game now.

There is the Military Meet at Campbelltown every couple of years, Les S and Dave W come down from the big island and we get a chance to look at something different but there's not much happening down here at all otherwise.

its a win win
i hear campbelltown is going to move to launceston? have you heard anything?

We can only dream!

I had intended to go to a Melbourne fair next year as time permits, 16 years since I went to the last one so I'm not sure how good they are now.

In WA the military fairs are organised by The Arms & Armour Society.

https://www.facebook.com/WesternAust...ArmourSociety/

There are 4 fairs per year the biggest one being held in September.

The 3 smaller fairs have mainly local private & commercial dealers.

The September fair also includes more local country (WA) dealers and dealers from the east, military vehicles, militaria displays and re-enactment displays so is defiantly the one to attend.

British badge wise I found that 90% are fake and 10% over priced, I can buy them cheaper from e-bay including postage from the UK. Australian badges, I have no idea of prices or rarity to know if there are bargains to be had, sorry.

Swords, bayonets, daggers, guns, uniforms, books and general memorabilia again not my thing but there are plenty of sales and people with smiles so plenty think there are bargains to be had here in the West.

I try to attend the September fair on Saturday (best day) with my Kubelwagen so if you do come over and see it and me drop by and say hello.

Cheers
John

keith, i havent been to a melbourne show for a few years now. i stopped as it was the same dealers with the same stuff.
i enjoy the adelaide show which i think is the best going around and penrith next. brisbane is usually a waste of time.

thanks john, i have tried to contact the west aust arms society several times but they never reply. at least now they have a FB site to get info from. would look forward to catching up.
cheers

Melbourne show has been dead for the last 15 yrs and as said same stuff, same people ,over priced crap as far as military items are concerned. Adelaide is still good and Ballarat is a very good show all country collectors and some dealers.

Are you 100% on the Melbourne dates?

I was told it was on 9/10 April - I can't make those dates, as Tim Fischer is in the store doing a book signing, but I certainly can do March!.
