Black Watch and something else
Hi,
I recently took a few patches. Please, gentlemen, tell me what formation wore these cocks? I guess that the second stripe to stripe Black Watch. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if it's the original. Can someone tell me whether original or not? Cezarek |

The bantam cock in the design reflects the "bantam" status of the World War One 40 Div. 40 Inf Div was re-formed in Hong Kong in 1949. The sign was worn there and also in Korea by elements of the Division who were sent to Korea in Aug 50. These elements of 27 Inf Bde included 1 Middlesex and 1 A&SH and at least one regiment RA. The signs illustrated are the Ordnance issue printed signs and are genuine. There are "silk weave" variants and a plethora of HK/Korea bazaar made versions. There's an entertaining photo of this sign being worn by officers of 1 Middlesex and 1 A&SH who are chatting to a couple of GIs in Korea - one wonders what the latter made of soldiers who went to war wearing the emblem of a "yellow chicken"?

Thank you for the explanation. I am very happy that I won the original and not some nasty fake.
But none of the Gentlemen did not want to comment on the patches Black Watch? Cezarek |

Personally I am not convinced by the BW tartan patch.
