Wellington School wear a shiny metal badge on an unmarked slider.
Kings school Rochester again shiny new metal type badge with north and south lugs.

Hurstpierpoint CCF are wearing the PWRR badge, the only person who wears the eagle badge is the detachment commander.

Ardingly college CCF are now wearing the PWRR badge and have done for at least the last 7 years. Although the member of staff i spoke to didnt know when the change was made. The Officers still wear the Ardingly badge though.

Default King's School Peterborough Cadet Corps K&K 2599

The School history shows that it was a Cadet Corps of the 4th Northants Regt. They were wearing a school badge in 1913 and not the Northants badge.

http://www.raundswarmemorials.org/4946/16724.html

This letter from 1915 confirms that the School had a cadet corps rather than an OTC. It had a school detachment in the Army cadet force in WW2 suggesting a cadet corps background.
I can find no on-line record of it becoming an OTC.

Default Mercers School Cadet Corps

Mercers School was a cadet corps and not an OTC.

School history: The First Fifty Years” by Past Guild Master R G Edwards: "1914 brought the outbreak of war together with the untimely death of Dr Scott who had seen many changes during his 35 years as Headmaster. Many staff went into the Forces, vacancies being filled by retired teachers called back into service. Mr C H Bickell succeeded Dr Scott who introduced a cadet corps to the school."

The school closed in 1958.

Default Elizabeth College Guernsey

K&K show 2 badges for this School: The OTC wore the Guernsey LI bugle until 1940 and the German occupation. The bugle badge is recorded in EJ Martin's work of 1938.

The School CCF was re-raised post war and used the Elizabeth College coat of arms in the 1950s when it was a CCF. http://www.jerseymilitia.co.uk/cadetpics2.html

Default Paston School

Paston School had a cadet corps and not an OTC. There is photgraphic evidence of it in the 1920s and it was later a CCF.

http://www.northwalshamarchive.co.uk...x?entry_id=265 http://www.northwalshamarchive.co.uk...x?entry_id=304

I am not sure that the 1920's photos show the school badge or that possibly the Norfolks looks to be a better match.

Default Morrison's Academy K&K 2630/1

K&K show 2 badges.

2560 is the WW1 era badge and was worn on the Glengarry. 2561 is the later badge worn on the Blue Balmoral. This badge was also worn by the CCF on the Balmoral bonnet.

http://www.morrisonsacademyarchive.o...keyword%5D=otc

With more CCF pictures. Earliest use of the bonnet is 1950s. However as an OTC badge exists it should have predated 1940.

http://www.morrisonsacademyarchive.o...rd%5D=ccf&

Note the sporran badge appears to be a reduced sized Glengarry badge http://www.morrisonsacademyarchive.o...s_archive_1926

Default Alleyns School OTC & CCF

It would appear that the school OTC wore the blackened badge and it was the CCF that wore the brass version. EJ Martin's article does not specify which one was in use in '38. The School's archive suggests that the black badge was in use by the Cadet Corps 1915-23, and then by the OTC 1923 into the 30's and 40's. The brass one was in use in the 50's. Later replaced by the Queen's badge in the 70's and then PWRR. http://www.alleyns.org.uk/alleyn/Alu...okletfinal.pdf

Default Chard School cadet corps K&K 2523

http://chardschool.co.uk/media/OCA-B...-April-131.pdf

The Chard School Cadet company was affiliated to the 5th Bn Somerset Light Infantry in 1922. As such they may have worn the SLI cap badge. The school badge shown in K&K may pre-date that or may date from 1930 when Regular badges were not to be worn by cadets. A school brass S/T does exist but is simply Chard School Somerset with no OTC. http://www.gnmilitaria.co.uk/viewpho...h=15892&phqu=2

The school cadet corps was never a member of the Junior Division OTC but a company in the regional army cadet bn. The school had an ACF post 1947 and was badged RA. According to the ACF they changed to the TA QOD&WSY in the 1960's http://somersetarmycadetforce.co.uk/he1/he2.html The school ACF is currently badged to the Rifles.

The top photo appears to show Dorchester Grammar School (from 1952 Hardye's school) with Dorsetshire cap badges circa 1939. It is possible that some are the old school badge which was recorded in use in 1937.

Default Bridlington School OTC

All,

K&K show 3 versions of the Bridlington School OTC badge.

The first is named OTC so is datable to some time between (if not all of the time) 1908-40. The OTC badge shown is the one I believe described in use in 1937 in EJ Martin's work on OTC badges. The 2nd and 3rd versions lack a title or designation

Type 2 (not shown in K&K) would appear to be the OTC badge with the scroll removed by being cut off. I would suggest that this was post 1940 modification of the old OTC badges for the JTC. The scroll on the modified OTC badge has been cut off this one as is evident from the snipped edges.

Type 3 (shown above) would seem to be 100% CCF but as yet no starting date. The CCF badge was in use upto circa 2012 on black berets with lugs and sew-on eyes. The CCF decided to rebadge to Yorks on khaki berets at that time.

Default King Edward VII's School Sheffield

I have unearthed a history of the School that shows that the School OTC wore the RE cap badge from its association with the West Yorkshire Engineer Volunteers during the Cadet Corps era.
'. Most school corps wore the cap badge of their local infantry regiment to which they were attached, but the KES contingent continued their connection with the Royal Engineers and wore their badge instead, although after the war they
changed to wearing the school’s badge on their cap.'

A photo of a KES cadet with the RE badge is here:

http://oldedwardians.org.uk/nlc/arti...ingTedsJCC.pdf

The OTC cap badge shown in K&K was introduced post war and can only have had a short life as the OTC was disbanded in 1927 by the Sheffield Labour council. The school raised an ATC in 1941.

Default Haberdasher Askes School

Haberdasher Askes School, Hampsted (moved in 1951 to Elstree)

A cadet corps founded in 1914 and recognised by the WD in 1915. It was part of the 3rd Cadet Bn Royal Fusiliers. It was then disbanded as part of the 1930 cuts.
Re-raised as cadet corps in 1936. The school old boys website records that an OTC Coy being raised in 1937 but the CC remained in existence; presumably for younger boys. From the school website:

Blessley has described how the old Cadet Corps was closed down. By about 1936 the political situation in the Country had changed and a new Cadet Corps was formed under 'Dicky' Small. It was largely a signals based Corps. Apart from basic square bashing, the cadets’ main activity seemed to be learning morse code and practising sending messages by waving flags in long or short strokes. It also had a small survey section whose members spent their time surveying the School grounds, and a bugle band.

The following year an O.T.C. of company strength was started under Reg Adams, an English Teacher. I think this must have been considered more 'up market1 so most people transferred to it but some diehards remained with the Signals Cadet Corps which was retained as an independent specialist unit. In the O.T.C. we had parades on Friday afternoon when we did our square-bashing, weapon training and infantry field tactics, and also had an annual inspection by a senior Army officer and field days in Windsor Park. I was a keen member of the O.T.C. rising to the rank of sergeant, and especially enjoyed shooting practice on the .22 range at the School and with .303 ammunition on Rainham Marshes and in the annual contest at Bisley.'

The London Gazette of 1939 confirms it as an O.T.C. in that year. It later became a CCF and is currently badges to the RRF.

It is therefore correct to show its an OTC badge but it was only one for 4 years out of its 100 year history.

There was also a sister school of the same name in Hatcham but known as the 'Askes' who were affiliated to the 7th Bn RF post WW2.

I am sure I am not the only member who hopes that eventually Alan will put all the great information and illustrations he is collecting into a book on the cadets and their insignia.

Default Brentwood School Essex Cadet Corps and Officer Training Corps

http://brentwood-heritage.daisy.webs...ed/Search.aspx

The following edition of the school magazine details the promotion of the school cadet corps to OTC status in Apr '36. http://brentwood-heritage.daisy.webs...36.pdf#page=31

It appears that the CC ran in paralell for some years and the older boys went into the OTC. The cadet corps had its own badge which was retitled for the OTC and CCF.

The school's JTC is noted in Apr 1941 after a change in title of the OTC in that year. The CC continued to run on in paralell until 1942 when it ceased and transferred to the JTC. http://brentwood-heritage.daisy.webs...&origFilename=

Post war CCF wore gilding metal CCF badges.
