Not the Royal Crest of a Colonel on the staff? With the crown partially covered by the chin-strap.

has anyone got a link or pic to a Royal crest.. of a Senior or staff officers that has such a big lion?
to me the lion if it is is twice the normal size of a senior staff officers badge

Hi bc, I see your point, but I think what looks like a leg might be in fact the top part of the crown.

If not then perhaps it is the Tasmanian Tiger badge claimed for the Tasmanian Rangers as their first pattern.

The officer on his left also looks to be wearing staff tabs and a smaller version of the Royal Crest. Both officers hat-bands appear to be lighter, i.e., scarlet perhaps, compared to the hat-bands of the other men who might be Administrative and Instructional Staff with the gilt/silver/enamel rising suns.

Sorry, your photo is quite indistinct.

Keith
