Hi, Thanks all for the input.
As background colours and user names can be changed, and the badges will no doubt be resold by un-suspecting (and suspecting!) buyers, what is it about the actual item that would hint at it being a fake? I’d hate to pass on Edward Mannock’s cap badge just because it was snapped on the pool table from a suspect angle! Regards Steve |

What on earth are you on about?
The RFC badge has a distinctive background as youpointed out. I pointed out that the same seller uses different background colours, also different usernames. As stated many times on this forum it is a bit on the dodgy side to name individuals. Get a grip and do your own research. |

I've be doing research and just got confused by the opionions expressed on the internet in general. That's why I joined this forum to get some straight answers from experts.

Hi Jim and Simon,
Just bought these two (almost accidentally) from the U.S. for 50 quid. Reasoning - they look right, and going on the principal that the faking contagion hasn’t spread that far, also he is not a dealer, in fact this was his only item. Have I done well? (I actually offered 2/3 of what he was asking and didn’t expect to get them) Regards Steve |

I know the ‘Wings’ are ‘Picture Frame’ examples, which suites my purpose.
The badge itself has that little scroll across the laurel leaf knot under the F, which seems to be rare, have only seen it on about three examples shown on the internet. Also nice chunky loops for pin eyes, which seems to hint at ‘original’. Does anyone have information about this ‘scroll’ type? They will be displayed with my goggle collection. Talking about research; here is something I did recently to try to make sense out of some goggle history which seems to have been neglected before. No fun if you dont share it... http://www.militarysunhelmets.com/20...us-goggle-type Regards Steve |
