43rd Wessex Brigade
Does the demise of the 43rd Wessex Brigade mean the end of the Wyvern being worn in the Army or is the article here only referring to the HQ element?

All regional brigades are now part of the deployable brigade structure. So yes no more 43 bde or the Wyvern. The Arty bde now have responsibility for the region.
Saves a lot of Brigadier posts and great savings for the taxpayer. |

The Wyvern
It will be sad to see the end of the Wyvern since it was introduced well before the Aries sign of, originally, 1 AGRA. Also sad that when compared to the traditional and pleasing 1 AGRA sign (left), the beast on the modern 1 Arty Bde TRF is such a strange design.

WESSEX BADGE
Have a look at Wessex Military Badge web page and tells you that the MOD have allowed the Military Band the honour to use the WESSEX badge as their emblem etc.

One thing I have never fully understood is whether the Wyvern or the Griffin is the true heraldic representation of Wessex. I have heard the same arguments and justifications applied to both and on the new Royal Wessex Yeomanry badge they have gone with the Griffin which is disappointing as it breaks the link with the TA in the South West and the 43rd Wessex Division.
