Default 2nd Madrass Pagri Badge

Hi Gents,

I just wanted to share a new addition that just arrived - a really lovely officers gilt pagri badge to the 2nd Madras.

Super nice badge, so really thrilled with this piece. The quality is excellent, so I'm thinking it may possibly be British made.

Either way a super addition to my Indian/Colonial collection.

Cheers, Roy.

Thanks for that Gents,

Very excited about this new addition, it is a really beautiful badge, so I'm going to see if I can get some better photos done today.

I know this is pre 1903 due to the unit name change but beyond that I don't know a great deal. But perhaps the new book most of us are waiting for may help

Either way I'm very pleased to have found such a splendid and early Indian badge.

Cheers, Roy.

Before 1885, the regiment was known as 2nd Regiment of Madras Native Infantry. It then became the 2nd Regiment of Madras Infantry. In 1901 2nd Madras Infantry. In 1903 62nd Punjabis.

The 2MI of the badge thus fits the two titles used from 1885 to 1903..

You are welcome.

BTW, are you interested in tables documenting these title changes? I have PDFs for different periods (from the very beginning of the Precidencies armies until the modern Pakistan and Indian armies) and could post links to them.

Hi Henk,

Yes certainly. I have some listed in the book by John Gaylor but if you have links to other would be very interested.

Cheers, Roy.

The following tables were created by me using information gathered. Main sources were:
. The Indian Army by Boris Mollo
. The Regiments.org by T.F. Mills now in the archive of the Way Back Machine at http://web.archive.org/web/200710110...regiments.org/
. Of course Wkipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

In my opinion, this information is general available and thus free of any rights. The way it is shown in the tables is my own idea about how I think it is easy to consult it. I will be glad to receive comments about factual errors, typos and rightout misusage of the English language (which is not my first language).

Feel free to keep a copy on your own computer. A word of warning about printing it. As I choose for one big page per table, printing it on A4 sheets might scale things down to become unreadable.

And now for the infantry link:
The Regiments of the British Indian, Indian and Pakistan Army

EDIT: The original list of links was replaced by one link to a page which offers you the choice of Infantry and Cavalry. There you will find the list of PDFs. This to make it easier for me to add and/or change the list of tables.

Outstanding Henk,

Really well done indeed for compiling and sharing all this great info. Sometimes such details are a struggle to trawl through but you have put it all together here in an easy to access format.

Cheers, Roy.
