Beware !
The two items in the pictures arrived today. I bought them on E bay ( for not very much ) mainly to see exactly what they were.
They were described as "Gold plated " and they are quite good copies of a 5th Lancashire Rifle Volunteers ( Liverpool Rifle Volunteer Brigade) shako plate and a 6th V.B. Kings Liverpool glengarry badge. Both items have the lugs in the right places but are a little rough around the edges. The shako plate particularly might fool some if it had the rough edges smoothed and had a blackened brass finish. The same might apply to the glengarry badge if it was in white metal. If I have no idea why the badges were produced, hopefully not to fool anyone with the bright gold finish, but it does show what can be made if the intention was to fool people into thinking that they are the real thing. It will be interesting to see if any other similar items emerge in the future. P.B.

I've had a couple of pieces from a chap who always says presume they're not original. He covers his back as he sells repro's of all kinds of badges and plates. As long as you're in the know and you get them cheap then they're good gap fillers for people with little funding for their hobby.
