The WD and the broad arrow are a nice touch.

Lugged badges are found with makers marks or unmarked. Cossum's book is considered the authority on these badges. One of our Antipodean members will probably be able to provide better information. PL |

Paul,
neither am I , I believe slidered (Aust CW) badges tend to date c.WW1? Andy |

You are correct. Slidered (Aust Com Mil Forces) badges are WW1 but not all WW1 badges are slidered. Wasn't there a similar badge with the W^D mark on it posted and discussed here a few months ago? I can't find that thread to compare the badges. Donny B. |

I'm aware its a dud, but was the W^D mark ever used in Australia?
The verdigris in the image that started this thread looks like turquoise paint, probable easier removed with laquer thinner than vinegar. Rgds, Thomas. |

hi guys
the give away is the wrong font used for the tiptaft makers name and the W^D was never used on aussie badges. tiptaft made beautiful struck/quality badges, this one is average at best and has some sort of artificial aging to it. geneuine tiptaft badges are maker marked on the sliders and OR on the body of the badge. will be interested to see what it sells for. bc |

The Australian army didn’t differentiate officers/ORs as such when at war, (ww1&2). They all wore the same badge, the official badge being the rising sun. There were various makers including several English made and these now command a higher price. The only way to tell an English made badge is really by the makers name and the use of a slider. Sliders were never used as an attachment by Australian manufacturers. The use of sliders also indicates a ww1 period badge as they were never slidered during any other periods. BC |

Nice badge Andy,
I note the same badge sold in Sept by yourself (same markes / scratches on slider). Did the sale fall through? Regards TRT |
