Default More 1916 patterns

Good morning

More economy issues. I have already had some opinions on these but would like to see what people think here.

Many thanks for your help

Martyn

Hi Martyn
Difficult one as I'm not too clued up with the EI badges (or anything else for that matter...). Not sure about the Sussex & Beds but I think the SWB & Essex are ok. Maybe have a look through the albums to compare with other EI badges.
Cheers,
Alex

Hi Martyn
I had a quick look at albums for EI badges. I think the Sussex is a dud still but can't decide on the Beds. Sussex mostly because of the sloppy way the scroll joins to the star on both sides and where it meets the feather, very poor.
Cheers,
Alex

The Sussex, Beds and Essex are imo

Kind Regards Ricardo

The SWB is horrible - look at the monstrous face!

I have an identical Essex with provenance back to the 1940s so that one is fine.

Just shows, I should keep my mouth shut
What makes you think the Sussex & Beds are ok? I compared the Sussex to a couple in albums and it is totally different.
Cheers,
Alex

The South Wales Borderers badge could be an unmarked Narborough badge. See attached images.

Martyn,
They (SWB) are very similar to the front with only subtle differences , but the back of the unmarked one particulary on the Egypt plinth is very poor.

Thanks Paul

The detail is actually pretty sharp but is covered in grime and is difficult to do justice to with my phone's camera.

Martyn,
With the further images I will still say the reverse is poor, the back of the plinth in particular shows some anomalies possibly from casting, I don't believe this to be a good badge. It is my opinion and there is far more experience on here to tell you differently,
I would look through the albums on the forum particularly Ubervamps fine well selected Economy WW1 collection and compare the SWB and the other Economy badges you have posted, despite being Economy badges that is not an excuse for poor quality unless of course as some may point out you have certain maker marked badges.

This badge has turned out to be genuine. It has been seen by an independent expert and auctioneer near where I live. It is a Narborough and definately die struck. It is common to see this type of reverse die by this maker and actually proves authenticity. This goes to show that genuine variations exist.

Regards

Martyn
