Hi Wayne,
I think the item is a pouch badge to The Scots Guards. Reginald H.W. Cox, in his book titled MILITARY BADGES of The British Empire 1914-18, badge # 1414 indicates that it was in gilding metal. The badge shown is 9 cm top to bottom. all the photos of badges in his book are same size. Michael. |

Frank is spot on, it appears to be a valise star (sometimes annotated as Greatcoat Ornament in records).
According to Col W.W. Mahon, The Irish Guards Star Part I, The Irish Guards Journal 1986, p 48, the original fitting was four loops replaced by the box type fitment sometime before 1910. John |
