I found this picture in my archive, 2 badges on left and one far right are with provenance to ww2 5th SAS (Belgian). The 3rd one is what is referred as Malayan era by SAS collectors. Not only the colour of feathers is different also details sword slightly differ e.g handle is bigger and stiching around feathers is slightly different.

Joe billet 6 troop malaya
The Malayan badge (my favourite of cap badges ) seen near the green loop is from joe billet, worn in Malaya

dancing around the subject. the premise is that at some time after the disbandment at the end of WW2 and remustering of the SAS, a decision was taken to
a) change the design of the embroidered cap badge to the Belgian / French version b) change the colour of the wing feathers or was it a case of left over stock with the vagaries of manufacture
