Parachute Regiment cap badges (Ludlow)

Two of my Parachute Regiment cap badges. Unfortunately, I do not have their story.

Luxurious Ludlow model:






A much more common model, as for me, totaly authentic. Note that the copper rings seem to be closer than usually:

I am not an expert on Parachute Regiment badges but note that Ludlow examples I have see often have a distinct pattern to the rigging lines running from the canopy. The ones to the left of center run into the central chord, rather than going to its base like the ones on the right.

Has anyone else noticed this please?

Hello,

I recovered badges and others that owned my uncle (he was of the 4th SAS from 1944 to 1945).
There is this paratrooper capbadge identical in all respects to that presented by Pianiste. I think it was manufactured by the same press to see the flaws.

Those are really lovely and these days, actually quite scarce badges, their quality is particularly pleasing, it is interesting to note both silver and white metal was used with their trademark copper loops.

The Ludlow Para badges are very desirable IMO, very nice if you can find them.

Superb original and rare badge. Interesting that there are two variations in the position of the Ludlow London mark; like this badge and that shown by Mike B.

Thanks for sharing. It is interesting: I always thought the French SAS wore their cap badge with the Crown removed (or beheaded as a typical French way ;o)
Was your relative an officer with the 4th SAS?

Hello Pierre,

no, he was'nt officer to the 4th SAS.
He was a parachute specialist at Ringway (Stage 143B from November 22nd to December 11th, 1944), so he only wore the red beret with the SAS badge.
I think he had to buy it in England during his stay.
My other uncle was "narrant officer" at 4th SAS, what is the grade in France?
