Hello,

It purports to be the WW1 Div Sign of the 8th (Ardwick)(TF) Bn. The Manchester Regiment, when part of the 42nd East Lancashire Regiment, worn at various times on the upper arm and the pagri.

However,

It is a modern fake.

regards

In printed form was this not also worn by 8 Manchester (TA) in the 1950s? John Waring identified it as such (JW1/725). Mike

Mike,

Yes it was and also on the Helmet Cover in the 1960's and 1970's in white on green a reflection on the other WW1 version of the '8' badge when the Bn. was transferred to the 126th Brigade on 19.2.1918.

regards.

Was there any such thing as a "helmet cover" in the 60s and 70s? Or or even in the 80s? Did they not come with the introduction of the new kevlar helmet, whenever that was?

Eddie

The attached from " North West Territorial" of September 1994 might be of interest.

I have never found any evidence that the Liver Bird (as on the badge on the red triangle )and as mentioned in the article in the North West Territorial, was ever worn by the Kings Liverpools as an arm badge in WW2.

Would be pleased to hear if anyone has more information.

No, the printed version came after WW2, prior to that they were both in 2 part felt and then embroidered.
