Yes, it is certainly in the detail and the quality of the white metal used, that is a very typical example.

The quality of the dies and material used, the depth of the strike, in particular and the loops are all very good indicators of those badges, whilst fairly common in themselves, they do certainly stand out and were carried on the veldt during the Anglo Boer War by the battalion, who had only left Egypt at the beginning of March 1900.

No, 1912 is completely wrong, the battalion actually wore the badge with a scroll before it sailed for South Africa in 1900.
