RMAS BAND CORPS
Can someone confirm for me, please, that the RMAS BAND CORPS, which was the smallest reigment in the Army until 1984(when disbanded-no pun intended) wore the same badge as the RMAS officer cadets??

RMAS BAND CORPS
FORGOT PICTURE
Until 1984, the RMAS had its own band - The RMAS Band Corps, the smallest Regiment in the British Army. Music is now provided by a variety of Corps of Army Music bands on rotation.

Jerry,
I do not know the answer to your question, but as a band they would be a unit and not a Regiment. As part of the RMAS, they would have been part of an even bigger unit, wearing the cadets (Sandhurst) badge? Perhaps you mean they were the smallest Military Band? There are Military units which are very small, even smaller than a stringed Quartet and still in operation, admittedly they wear their parent unit's badge! Andy |

RMAS BAND CORPS
ANDY, This is taken from From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia on the RMAS.
QUOTE "Until 1984, the RMAS had its own band - The RMAS Band Corps, the smallest Regiment in the British Army. Music is now provided by a variety of Corps of Army Music bands on rotation". UNQUOTE So according to this they were smaller then the MPSC and the SASC.

Funny word "Corps" and not necessarly used to describe none infantry units as you do have a "Corps of Infantry" and Regiments themselves can be described as "Corps". Plus it can also be found in titles such as "Volunteer Rifle Corps", which is an infantry organisation, and of course the "Kings Royal Rifle Corps", which we all know as a regiment

Apologies for the thread resurrection, but the Sandhurst band was indeed a corps in its own right as indicated by the 1920 allocation of service numbers;
......... 7681001 7717000 Corps of Military Police 7717001 7718800 Military Provost Staff Corps 7718801 7720400 Small Arms School 7720401 7732400 Army Educational Corps 7732401 7733000 Band of the Royal Military College 7733001 7757000 Corps of Military Accountants 7757001 7807000 Royal Army Veterinary Corps 7807001 7868000 Machine Gun Corps 7868001 8109000 Tank Corps Apart from change of title (RMAS) I believe it remained as a corps for the remainder of its existence. I do recall very clearly that the RMAS band was 'advertised' as the smallest corps in the army. It appeared as such in a feature in SOLDIER magazine.

The band of the Royal Military College (Sandhurst) wore a brass RMC monogram as their cap badge, prior to amalgamating with the Royal Military Academy (Woolwich) in 1947.
