I would check the makers mark, it looks to be the dreaded "dot in the middle and 15mm long" fake.

Peter,
Not a Restrike but a aged fake! As Phil and Marc have already observed the MM is a common post 1970s repro stamp! There is an all Wm SWB, they are quite scarce and generally lugged! Apart from the modern repro slider, the other giveaways are the unsymmetrical letters in "EGYPT" and the and overall poor definition to the wreath of immortels!

I suspect if cleaned it would look even worse?

Best regards

Andy

Hello Peter,
I've never seen a real one on a slider and would not even consider buying any that are, but, of course you can dismiss that particular one straight away!
Regards Frank

Brookies,
sorry but I'm pretty sure the badge you show is not a good example either and at best is a silvered or silver plated example and not the early Wm badge! They have quite distinctive unvoided areas around "S", "B" and the swags at 12 o'clock and far better detailing. I'd check with your Dad, but I think your's is just a lugged version of the badge Peter opened the thread with!

Best regards

Andy

Andy,

Here's the other along with a plated version, slider version (all of which he's happy with) and a chrome version jut to round of.

Thanks for the reply and the images, the lugged plated one is a nice pre 1903 that has been plated? The Silver badge is a lovely badge too, despite being a poor strike! The slidered badge is 100% wrong, the small pattern is a common fake and only ever produced in Bim for ORs, but does appear in OSD and Sil/SP for Offrs. Please don't think I'm trying to start a peeing match, and you probably won't like to hear this or possibly agree, but I assure you the small pattern badge you show with a slider is a repro!

Best regards

Andy
