Brass 1916 Rifle Brigade cap badge
Hi guys
I don't think this badge appears on the list of 1916 Economy badges is it therefore a fake. Cheers Sean |

Positive it's not wm with a coating, it's a nice clear strike, lots of detail fron and back, if I remember rightly it came from a tiny shop in Preston in 1976 for £1.50. The only other thing I would say is that the it isn't as thick as the wm badges.
Here it is again next to the wm badges. |

Not contesting it’s G/M, but I once owned a Norfolk Regiment badge that looked decidedly brass until it was cleaned:

Something that has just dawned on me that is now blindingly obvious............it has WW1 battle honours and this pattern wasn't sealed until 1927 lol so even if it brass it can't be an economy one lol.
Also I'll give it a clean but it definitely looks brass with no coating on. Cheers Sean |

In your group photo, the badge appears to have ‘whiter’ areas. This may just be the lighting, of course:

The badge shown is the post-WWI pattern isn't it?
Presumably some were made in brass with a silver coloured coating. I remember a dealer in Cambridge back about1980, had one in acid to remove the remnants of the coating as he had a buyer for it as a WWI brass economy. I have these two, yellow metal with a silver coloured coating, I think chrome, the well worn example acquired in 2005, labelled as an "NCOs pattern", the a few months ago. Private purchase? Both from the same die by the look of them. Last edited by leigh kitchen; 05-11-17 at 03:22 PM. Reason: Put wrong year for purchase |

One with the brass showing through but with the majority of the plate intact. I suspect it's a commercially sold badge rather than an issued one which would have conformed to the s/p card. |

Looks like the same die as the two I show.

Absolutely no sense in striking an economy GM RB badge ......... the economies made were not in materials but in removing the complication of bi-metal.

The badges shown are'nt WWI economy, they're a later pattern.
Presumably they're a private purchase with a chrome or similar silver coloured finish. |
