Company flashes
The following drawing I did some time back may help with identification. The flashes you posted are for the Catering Corps. Regards. Dudley.

Hi Dudley,
The colours appear to be more grren on the tupperware flashes as apposed to the blue/green(turquoise) of the catering corps. Are these not possibly the CF commando command flashes. i.e. just like the red/yellow PF command sheet you posted but in green/yellow for the citizen force commando's. Steven |

Thank you, It answered two more questions I had on the colors. I have an infantry flash like "D" Coy but it is turned with the point down. And one in the same colors as Engineers it is like "B" coy but the bottom is rounded and makes it look like a US beret flash. The best John |

Hi John,
Please see my attached photo, the tuppers are 7 South African Infantry Division. NOTE: Not 7 SAI or South African Infantry - the one with the Rooikat / Caracal as unit emblem. I hope this helps ? Mark |

John,
The company symbols for the first 6 companies (Alpha to Foxtrot) were reused where more than 6 companies were formed but the symbols were inverted. Although the symbols were inverted, the colours should remain in the same order, top to bottom/left to right but there were errors on some "tupperware" flashes and, in the case of the metal and earlier cloth flashes, some units just used what they already had in stores when they went past Foxtrot. The "tilted D" Engineering/Artillery flash has always intrigued me, as I have not yet found anyone who can tell me where they were used or even if they were actually used at all. As Mark already said, the green and gold shoulder flashes in the original post were used by 7 Div (7 SA Infantry Division). Regards Craig |

Further to the Company Flash / Tupper subject...
I have posted a pic of the Signals Company insignia for 5 Signal Regiment. The Signals company tuppers had different designations than say, the infantry. Hope this helps a little ? Mark |

Hi, from personal experience, I also found that although the designations were laid down, if there was a shortage of a particular flash, they were redesignated in the unit. Our company wore a Delta company flash during basic training, even though we were in Echo company. I didn't pay much attention to it then, but it stands to reason that Delta company had a different flash too, maybe even some of the other companies. Regards Andrew
