Many thanks Paul. It is a minefield and I'm certainly no expert. It's nice to find good ones note and again. I'm a lot more careful now and try to buy from reputable dealers but nobody knows everything and copies are probably only going to get better and better. I try to buy badges with some natural wear and tear rather than mint badges unless they come with a guarantee.

Regards

Martyn

Very glad to hear that, I thought it looked ok, despite the poor face. Even in the albums there are 3 or 4 different sphinx profiles.
Cheers,
Alex

Thanks Alex. Yes these ugly sphinxes (which I've seen on Gloucester's and South Lancashire badges) seem to be characteristic of some Narborough made badges as I've been informed.

Here's my Smith & Wright example. I have seen Narborough examples to the Mons (I have a blackened one on the FS cap), but not to the SWB so far.

Nice badge. I've only seen a few marked FN Birm. They do tend to look a little rougher by the sound of things.
