Irish Guards Pipers badge all Brass?
Hi can I ask your views on this Irish Guards Pipers badge all brass? Haven't touched it yet cleaning wise, and not long in acquiring it but rear is blckish greenish! and front definition is well could be because its manky I see pitting? The lugs to rearcould have feet but appears to have been splayed out to attach to rear crest of the star?
Many thanks Billy Last edited by billy; 15-04-18 at 12:53 PM. |

this is not a pipers star, it is the design worn on the sabretache c. 1900-01 but unfortunately looks like a fake to me (loops feet and only two of them). Plenty of threads on IG stars with further details. John |

Don’t fret Billy - 99.9% of the examples of this badge you see are restrikes. Even the Guards Museum have a restrike on display. I’m sorry still on the hunt for a good one too!
Have a look at my Irish guards research Album. Image 1 is an Officers Sabbetache pouch badge, and Image 6 is what I believe to be the ‘forefather’ to whatever the Irish Guards o/r sabbertache badge became (it is a 4th Irish Dragoon Guards pouch star). Best, Sean
