That was standard practice from the 1970s through to early 2000s, Tony, when a review led to the introduction of embroidered bullion wire badges.

I’m sorry I should’ve made clear I was referring to wear in the rifle green beret. Also I know that there have been some other changes under the influence of the last Corps SMI.
