I was under the impression that "Ich Dien" signified the military award.

Hi folks,

(Sorry for the delay in posting - I knew I had this button but couldn't find it! )

Anyway, not sure whether this helps, clouds the waters or is a complete red herring.

I have this button in my collection which has a very similar design to the buckle shown. The main differences being :
(a) The 3 x Crowns - which are shown as 2 over 1 on the buckle and 1 over 2 on the button.
(b) The Rayed star which on the buckle has 4 x distinct arms.

Like the previous posts, I had come to the conclusion it might be for the 'Order of the Bath (Military)' - but would they have had their own buttons?

But now seeing they might have had Buckles - then there is probably no reason why they wouldn't have had buttons as well.

Button is Gilt and is Mounted (2 x part).
Diameter = 22mm
Backmark = JENNENS & Co LONDON

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Cheers

Ian

Is this a 2 part buckle ie is the centre part being discussed, separate from the gold coloured 'frame' of the buckle. I ask because if so might this not have been put together from two unrelated components ? I say this because the 'frame' is much like several old Japanese civilian belt buckles that I have owned over the years .

Hi Rad
Not sure what you mean. As in the pics it is a 2 part buckle with a silver looking badge attached. It all looks like it was made for each other. The badge doesn't look cut down or modified and the male part fits the female part perfectly. Not a style I have seen before.
Thanks for your interest.

Lord Lieutenant's full dress belt buckle? Did they wear a sword in full dress?
