Very interesting, your collecting interests are quite eclectic.

Sassainian empire circa 500 AD.
Carnelian gem-stone seal possibly from a ring, depicting twin goats looking backwards. The hunting of wild goats was a popular sport with the nobility. The copper deposits may have come from the mount it was held in. 16mm x 21.5mm 3.2gms.

Photo of rifles collected on the battlefield. And toffee apple mortars lying on the ground.

Sorry Thomas, I have no idea this is one of about 50 WW1 photos I had, some had various code letters on the reverse but no dates. There were quite a few in snow conditions probably the 1916 winter?
Ron.

Default drum major

Pencil drawing of a drum majors sash by Potters of Aldershot circa 1936. Just over 3 feet long.

Silver-plate trinket box studded and lined in green velvet. The top mounted with a Scottish thistle and the town badge of Soissons, to the four corners a fleur-de-lis and to the four sides a thistle motif. To commemorate the 300 dead of the 15th Scottish Division who fought alongside the French 23-28 July1918 in an action near Buzancy in the Soisson sector. The French General in command ordered the engineers of the 17th Division to erect a memorial to the Scots a simple pyramid with a thistle and rose decoration. Inscribed to the front.
Here will flourish forever.
The glorious thistle of Scotland
among the roses of France.

Coronation medal issued by the Mayor of Bulawayo 1902. The arms of Scotland, Ireland, England and I assume the last one is a Rhodesian lion?

Hi GTB,
No I dont olive oil is a mild acid that eventually eats into bronze coins. For bronze/alloy coins I use a small amount of renaissance wax, for silver coins I use nothing.

Hi Ron,

I do like the ship photos in your collection, thanks for posting many of them.

I too have quite a large collection of pre 1WW (& 1WW also) ship photos & will eventually get around to posting some of my collection.

No idea what WSS might mean - being in Port Said perhaps an Arabic designation?

Best for 2017!
Bryan

If the photographer didn't know the HMS prefix maybe he thought "War Ship Steamer" or something instead of the usual 'SS'?
Cheers,
Alex
