Default 43rd Bn CEF Badge for Review

Hi,

I can seem to find any information on this cap badge. Charlton's book on W.W.1 Canadian Infantry Badges list it as No.43B but he does not mention a white metal badge in is listing. Is the white metal one just a variation? Thanking you all in advance and hoping to hear from one of you very soon.

Regards, Michel

Don't see any issue with that badge.

Hi Bill,

Should this badge be made of brass or white metal or both?

Regards, Michel

One reference says the badge was brass, but it was typical for Highland bn's to wear white metal badges. The new reference we are working on has found badges in antiqued brass/bronze and white metal.

Why are CEF badges to a pariculare Battalion found in so many different metals and finishes?

Not sure how to answer that. First, they sourced the badges at different times, in different locations. And, the private market also stepped in to answer the demand. Those under contract had to follow the conditions of the contract, but outside of that, anyone could make the badge in any metal they chose and finish it the way they wished.
