Default My Badge

I was a pupil at The Gordon Boys School in the 1960s. The Yellow metal badge was gradualy replaced by a gold anodised version in about 1966 and either could be worn. The buttons however had already been changed to anodised by 1965 and bore the same badge. The badge was mounted on red felt.
The uniform consisted of Gordon Tartan Trews a blue high collar jacket with gold anodised buttons. There were no collar badges. The Glengarry was dark blue with a Gordon Tartan band Red bobble and of course the badge mounted on the left hand side on a red felt background. Good conduct upside down chevrons were worn on the left cuff. Boys were entitled to wear 1 for every six months of good service. Once they reached six they were replaced by a gold chevron and the issue of a Good conduct medal.

Once I work out how to upload photos I will post them

Default Gordon Boys School

Hi All,

Founded in memory of General Gordon, this military-based boarding school has its own Gordon Medal for good conduct (whoops, missed that one!) and they also have a badge for their glengarry headgear.

Originally known as Gordon Boys Home, then Gordon Boys School it's now for both sexes and is called Gordons School based in West End, Surrey. The school has a very active CCF unit. I attended this school from 1975 - 78 whilst my parents/home were in Hong Kong. For those that went to GBS - my number was 7928

Whoops! As I save this I find that there is another thread about the Gordon Boys School. There was a brass badge (general) and the silver one was for the pipers....

The School has a website.

+ Anthony

Hi James G,

What was your number at GBS? I was 7928. My eldest brother was 7204, next 7255, then my twin was 7927.

And would you mind grabbing me a tin of tartan paint?, Having a Long Wait and Painting the Last Post for me?

All the very best,

+ Anthony

Hi Mike,

My school friend at GBS was a piper, so I've emailed him to see if he has the silver badge (he's such a hoarder, I wouldn't be surprised!!).

Hi Mike

My number was 7365 and I was in Gravesend House. The school medal collection and museum was what got me hooked on collecting badges and militaria.

Hi James,

I started off in Woolwich, but xfered to China - to seperate me from my twin (I wonder which one to this day was the bad influence!!). So did you have the pleasure of Snake walking you around the grounds and showing off the Museum?

And isn't it sad that we STILL remember our numbers!!!

Apparently they have now planted trees on the parade square ... ho hum.

Hi Mike,

I've heard back from my friend who went to GBS with me - and unfortunately he can't find his badge - but HE thinks it was brass one he had. He went on to say that he thought the silver ones were plastic ones - like a 'new edition and cheaper to make' ..... ?
