POPSKI, badge opinions please...
...opinions please on this Popski, badge appears silver/unhallmarked white metal..heavy. Looks distruck..sheer marks to side.
Has some of the signs associated with originals ..but do note slight differences in some of the design..two dots at 10pm ? central part of the globe actually has a small dash and dot. I am aware that there were some design differences.. anyway I have enlarged the pictures and looking forward to hearing peoples opinions good or bad. thanks steve. When you ask on the authenticity on a PPA badge without provenance I do not think you will get any firm confirmations on it. Real ones a rare as hen's teeth so you must be extremely cautious.

There was a posting in the Military Historical Society just after Popski had joined - several decade ago. It advised members that Popski had no more badges left and had given his spares away. Hugh King told me he got one of Popski's badges (I think he said he met Popski a few times at London Branch meetings) and in the years that followed I was fortunate enough to acquired it. It is not like any other badge I have seen, and I believe it may have been a prototype as it is not as well finished as others we see. It is silver though. Needless to say - it is highly treasured, I would never part with it. Any thoughts appreciated.

Eight years late...! One very like this in brass has just sold on Ebay for 700. To my mind, it was a real first pattern, and had detail distinct from the later war badges.

Assuming it is my badge you refer to ... Many thanks for your expert advice - I am over the moon. The story all adds up and as it had not disappeared into the collecting fraternity I thought attribution was very good - also backed up by documentation. I know Popski gave away badges as I heard of another, given as a wedding gift when he attended a wedding at Shepheards hotel Cairo. Given the importance of the hotel, and popularity with some leading Military figures, I thought it might be useful to add some images of the hotel. It was a hub of intrigue. Regards Mike |

Very many thanks for the update.
I paid quite a bit more for the one I have, but the attribution from Popski put a bit of a premium on it. I am pleased that it finds favour. I value the opinion of specialist experts. All the best Mike |

No I didn't buy the badge as I already have examples of that design in silver and in brass. I expect it will surface on a dealers list soon at a price several times it's actual worth!
Enjoy the hobby... QUOTE=arrestingu;446965]Did you get it Keith , sadly I got out bid ...!! ohh well lol[/QUOTE]
