Default Why are these Sgt stripes black?

Hi all,

I've just seen these stripes on the local market and I am looking for a set of ww2 sgt stripes for a display but the black background is putting me off them a bit.

Can anyone tell me why someone would have blackened the background? As the photos show the reverse is the right colour.

Is it a particular regiment's style or has someone done this to make them stand out on a display?

Thanks,

Michael

Several regiments adopted coloured backgrounds to their chevrons like the ones you show but it's difficult to be certain which regiment wore which colour as they were never officially recorded outside the regiment.

But definitely not standard chevrons.
