Unknown POW button
This 25mm appears to be silver plated.
Is it Denbighshire Yeomanry or a generic design with other uses? Rob |

Hello Rob
According to Howard Ripley's book on Yeomanry Buttons the Denbighshire Yeomanry button does not have a rim and a slightly different form of 'Ich Dien' scroll. Obviously there may have been maker's variations but I tend to think that your button is something other than Denbighshire Yeomanry. There are quite a few of these PoW feathers buttons around and it can be very difficult to assign an exact identification. Roger |

Hi Roger
Its the only design Howard Ripley noted for the Denbighshire Yeomanry for a very long period 1828 to 1922 so there must have been lots of subtle varieties. And do the addition of rims make any difference to Regimental design, several short lived units exist with both. Rob |

Hello Rob
I'm sure you are right as regards the rim - there are, as you say, plenty of examples of regimental types both with/without a rim. This is simple when the design is of an obvious regimental pattern but it does make life a little more uncertain in other cases. Roger |

Dennis Blair's booklet "British Buttons" page 56 has such a button listed as H.M. Lieutenants of County for Wales.
It is not the same die, but very similar. |

Attached is the button from the 1908 booklet "Dress Worn at Court".
It seems identical to the button presented by Dennis Blair. I do not know if Blair's is a mounted design. |
