Formation Signs for Vehicles
In response to a member's request I am showing some more vehicle signs which were made to be applied to vehicles. They would seem to date from the late 1950s/early 1960s.
They are not mine but I can put members in touch with the owner. Jon

This type of water transfer were available from an RAOC depot in Caterick Garrison on submission of a signed 1033 indicating the stores number and quantity required. They were still available in 1990.

vEHICLE FORMATION SIGNS
I have a booklet printed by printing and stationery services 21St. Army group. It has about 50 pages of vehicle formation signs and here is a few of them, if you want to see the whole lot I will add them on here, John.

Thanks for the offer of the 21st Army Group signs. I have a copy of the pamphlet - a fascinating record. Coincidentally I am illustrating a couple in the latest edition of The Formation Sign just going to press. I'm sure that other members would be fascinated to see the signs if you are happy to post them here. Jon

The 43rd Wessex example as a stick on version is still available today. The Divisional Association used to sell them.
Certainly the RWY and TA Battalion Wiltshire Regiment were still painting their formation sign on to vehicles up to disbandment. The style of Wyvern was also different to the war-time one.

My thanks to Jon for sharing the transfers, and to Tim for pointing out the existence of his album of transfers......of which I was not aware. An amazing collection!
It would be great to to find an RAOC catalogue of transfers, or to find out the name of the company who produced them for the army in the 50s and 60s! Dave

Although I have found no evidence of them producing vehicle signs Gale & Polden were major manufacturers of water slide transfers for helmets so it seems possible that they may have produced some for vehicles as well.
As cloth formation signs for uniforms were never supplied through the RAOC channels in the same way as cap badges and never appeared in such things as Vocabs it seems unlikely that their transfer equivalent would have appeared in an RAOC publication. Jon
