Default BSAP--BMA Police

At auction today I bought a scrap book made up by an Inspector Tugwell of the BSAP. On one page there was the two shoulder titles shown below. There is a lot of interesting pictures in the book so if anyone is interested I can post them here. John

John,
I would very much like to see any interesting pictures of Eritrea (and BMA Eritrea at work) if you are prepared to post them. Many thanks.

Sorry Rob, no m/c pictures but they are mentioned.

Mike, I will bring the scrap book to the next MHS meeting in Dorchester and you can have a look at your leisure.

The main thrust of the album is a collection of ephemera relating to his travels in Ethopia and Libya, some more picturess below, John.

Thanks for the posting, Blackpowder.......incidently, does your call sign mean you fire those old thingies, in which I am rather interested..........?

Being an old relic myself, I do enjoy seeing these old pictures.

Regards,

John

Your are correct, I used to use muzzle loaders especially when decoying pidgeons. A role of pink toilet paper was used as wadding, much to the surprise of the farmer when he surveyed the arc of blackened bog paper on his corn. Gun used was a Tatam and Egg 20 bore converted to percussion with 33 inch barrel. John.

Thanks Blackpowder; that is a really unusual fire-arm I had not heard of before and am looking it up on the internet to learn some more about it. Thanks for adding to my knowledge of old weaponry.

Regards,

John

Hello

My grandfather was an inspector in the BMA Police. Do any of you know what BMA stands for.......?

Thanks

BMA = British Military Administration - often seen as an overprint on postal stamps issued by the government administering liberated territories.

Blackpowder

Henry Gordon TUGWELL, served BSAP 23.04.1939 until 29.11.1946, left in rank of Sergeant but from the scrap book rank it would appear that he,along with other BSAP men ,were ranked up during their wartime service outside Rhodesia.
A good read in this respect if ' Sheba Slept Here' by Alan Caillou-a reminiscence of life in Ethiopia ' ( during the BMA period ).

Default BMA Police / BSAP

I have come very late to this thread but as an ex member of the BSAP with an interest in the history of the force I would be interested to see any more photo's or memorabilia from the scrap book. Thanks.
