One must be pretty eagle eyed to make that judgment from the small sized images offered. Or is there something else?

Rgds,

Thomas.

Rgds,

Put it down to experience. You don't even have to see the makers marks as every six months or so a new batch comes out and as usual the source is Coventry.

Hi Guys,

Every time I see images this size I think 'dodgy'.

Anyone selling good pieces will always want to show them off the best possible way.

Regards

Chris

Keith is quite correct. Someone is producing a number of badges with makers' names on them that are either bogus or not found on genuine badges. The fact they all pop up together should sound alarm bells.

As for this one - it is a known fake die, the tiger is 'wrong' for upppingham, it is not an officer's badge, nor bronze, need I go on.....

The sad thing is that there have to be many collectors ( hopefully not members here ), who, even accepting that a few might accept a dud untill they can get hold of the real thing, seem totally unaware of the size of the problem of dud badges or even that non genuine badges exist.

Manufacturers who make these items and the people who sell them must know that there is a market for them othewise they would not be made in the first place.

P.B.

I think most collectors would be surprised how big the copy badge business is. Since the early eighties they have been churned out form India and other countries......

Cheers
Jim

Hi Alan and to you all!! this i,ve noticed on E-bay recently and a few am watching are these then all dodgy badges? glad to have asked this question before buying! also just put me right on the " JR Gaunt " or "J.R. Gaunt " is it the 1st one which is correct or the 2nd or is the both of them correct but only if they are longer than 15mm? the reason I ask is I am going to look at some badges in the near future date to be confirmed but its a lot of travelling and expense of petrol & time but I don,t want to waste my time if he will take photo,s of the rear and i,ll make my mind up then, but have confused myself in the process of this indicator ( can,t find my bit of paper with false makers marks!) thanks in advance beforehand lads! billy
