Ray, it was an infantry brigade (in 44th Inf.Div.) then, it became 133rd Lorried Infantry Brigade in October 1942. Disbanded in the Middle East 16 Januaray 1943. Perhaps after the war it was used for another British formation.

Locking, you say the 133rd LAA was created in 1942,Jo you say the 133rd Inf.Bn was disbanded in 1943 wich would make the sign overlap. Well Guys,I'm still up in the air with this one, Surely there were not two Units with the same sign? Obviously, you both have documentation on each of the units in question.
Now we could raise the question ,has the signs been submitted in error. Has anyone out there got anything to add on this unsolved question? BWEF, Tynesider, Allen,54 Batt, Got anything to add? Last edited by boots and saddles; 30-06-09 at 03:14 PM. |

It's possible of course that the Battery was part of 133 Inf Bde.

Ray, to understand how, when and why these badges were worn is to understand the British regimental system, numbering and espirit d'corps.
If a unit was renumbered, renamed or moved, changed it's Brigade or roll it would usually be given a totally new divisional or brigade insignia but could if the Commanding Officer fought a strong historical case, take his insignia with him to the units new home. Or the unit could excist without its previous insignia thus the overlap. The numerical title 133 which makes up this badge was worn by BOTH units at various times, probably not at the same time, but if in different theatres and both claimed ownership whats the wrong in that. Remember they didn't wear insignia for the benifit of Collectors or historians did they! It is not unusual either for a unit to adopt a whole new history at the stroke of a pen. Don't read too much into this lark. If you want it as part of an RA collection then it is 133 LAA RA if part of an 133 Inf BDE collection then thats what it is!
