Smile 10th Ghurkas?

I recently took this badge off a Great War souvenir belt, it had been put on with a hammer I would think as the loops are bent over.

I think it is an Indian Army Ghurka badge, but is it headdress or another form of insignia?

Thanks for your help.

Rob

Hi there, yes it's 10th Gurkhas - there type of badge was worn on a variety of headress ( Kilmarnock, Wolseley helmet , felt etc ) - between 1908 and 1937.

It should measure 30mm high and 38 mm wide and be in white metal.

It's not clear from your picture what metal it's made from ( is it just a dirty white metal ? ) - also it looks to be a very slightly different variant to the ones I've got - would you be interested in selling it on?

Cheers Tim

Cool 10th Ghurka Rifles

Tim,

Many thanks for your help, this badge is made from white metal, the reverse is blackened including the lugs and the kukri handles are blackened with the high points polished to give a perspective of depth, or at least that is what it looks like to me!

The dimentions are:- 30mm wide X 25mm deep

As at yet I have no plans to sell it, but if I do it will be offered on the forum first.

Regards Rob

Thanks Rob - given the size it's definitely a variant of the badge I've not seen before!

Cool 73rd Carnatic Infantry pagri badge

Roy,

This is a 73rd Carnatic Infantry pagri badge, the crown is a variation of the Victorian crown I think. See the picture attached of the reverse.

Smile Memories

Roy,

I got this badge from a very old friend who sadly is with us no more, we exchange items over the years when he stalled out at the fairs.

A true Gentleman.

It just goes to show Rob, that 'how' we end up with a badge can often be as important or memorable as the badge itself.

One of the joys of collecting

Cheers, Roy.

Wink Exchanges

Roy,

Things were not all "one-way" with our exchanges, I let him have a WWII German helmet for an exchange which I valued at £25, he said he could have sold that many times over, I have yet to get another at that price . . !
