Default Buy, Sell or Swap?

Buy, Sell or 'swap'?

How do others achieve their objective, assuming that it is their wish to expand their collection in whatever speciality they have?

Do they sell 'unwanted' items on eBay, at Auction, to Dealers?

Do they buy 'wanted' items from eBay, Auction and/or Dealers, maybe even non-specialist dealers, flea-markets/car boot sales?

Do they 'swap' with fellow collectors?

Or, do they 'sell' to 'buy'? By either means and from either means.

Just curious as to others policies.

My own, I sell to buy, 'swapping' in my eyes. My collecting has to be self-supportive. Regularly re-arranging my own collection to have material to sell on eBay, and with the results? If Paypal then I'll buy on eBay; if cheque/postal order/cash then I'll buy at Militaria Fairs and the like.

Hi raesherwood,

I basically started selling anything and everything on ebay, I now buy, whenever I can, anything military, to sell again to fund my collections.

I have been very fortunate just lately, to be able to buy something nice now and again, out of my ever growing repairs venture, I don't do it for a high profit margin but occasionally I cheat and buy the materials/tools etc out of my bank but spend the few quid I earn on badges.

I am also open to swapping to enhance my collections but rarely have anything to interest others.

Dave.

I do pretty much the same. I sell a lot of sample stuff I get from my clients to fund the badges. And also sell doubles etc on Ebay that I get when I buy a bunch of stuff.

I thought about doing an album on here, that would be dedicated to items I was looking to move on; either swap or sell. Tough though with most of the members being in the UK; the extra shipping costs.

Simon.

For me it's all of the above with the exception so far of selling at auctions and although I have offered dealers exchange items, no luck as I can't match what they can pick the badges up elsewhere.

In my opinion you can't beat buying from the dealers at the fairs as an experience but for some of the more expensive items for the future I am inclined to favour the online auctions offered by the likes of Bosleys in order to make best use of the budget.

At present I am relying on my own sales to fund the hobby and have sold quite a bit of general militaria privately over the last year to attain my collection as it now stands.

I have had some absolute bargains from Ebay and car boot sales but do tend to specialise a little to much in favour of my own area of interest as opposed to buying bargains to sell to others for maximum profit, which is where the dealers have the upper hand.

Smile Exchanges

I am always willing to exchange items with other collectors/dealers for items that I need for my collection, I do sell items if a person has not got anything that I need and I have something that they need, but I do prefer to exchange.

I have over the years exchanged badges and medals only to get them back by some different route, it's a small world and thanks to the internet it's getting smaller.

All of the above, I also sell non military collectable items that I pick up from here and there.
