Default 19th Button

Can anyone help me with this one please? It was described as 19th Hussars but I am sure it is not?

Regards,

Hello Jimbo

No, not 19th Hussars but either the 19th Hyderabad Regiment, British Indian Army, 1922-1947 or the 19th London Regiment (St Pancras). Both units seem to have used an identical pattern button.

Unless you are very lucky and have an Indian backmark on the button there is, as far as I am aware, no way of telling them apart!

Regards
Roger

Thanks Roger - I think we can assume it is 19th Bn, London Regiment with a marked reverse J.R. Gaunt & Son London.

Regards,

Jim

Hello Jim

What I meant previously about the backmark was that if a button like this has an Indian maker/retailer backmark then odds on it is for the 19th Hyderabad Regiment.

Gaunt were a prolific maker of buttons for the British Indian Army so this could be for the 19th Hyderabad or the St Pancras. There is just no way of telling with a Gaunt backmark unless you know the history of the button.
