Large Crown for a cap badge? - NRPS?
Did NRPS in NI wear a black beret with a large crown for a cap badge? Or who did please...

Why would Non Regular Permanent Staff (NRPS) wear the large crown and not the parent unit badge?
Are you thinking of the MOD's Guard Service? (Now MPGS) They did wear blue uniforms in the 1990s with blue berets and crown badges. Last edited by Alan O; 19-05-17 at 09:56 AM. |

It's not a TA or Army reserve badge.
The designation is: Insignia Organisational, Cap, Civilian Employees. Aluminium. Anodised gold finish with vertical shank. NSN 8455-99-973-9488 And as I said was worn by the Guard Service in the 1990s prior to them getting their own badge. The role is now formalised by the MPGS and in NI's case the NISGS. Both have their own badge design. |

Ta muchly
Thanks, civi guard on TA camp then early '70's of some description. The TA guards shot & killed at least one IRA attacker on a TA base, doubt the firer got an NI medal though!
There were all sorts of funny things going on then, local circumstances & local rules. |

The TA and their Civilian Guards in NI were part of NATO and not part of Op Banner, therefore not entitled to GSM NI. The Civilian Guards did wear an AA Crown on their berets.
