Default Sailor's shoulder flash

Good evening, I am hoping you can help with the photo below. This is a photo of a very busy Main Street, Gibraltar in the 1950's. As we can see full of what appear to be Royal Navy sailors, as was quite usual at this time.

I am curious however about the shoulder flash one of the ratings (in the enlarged photo which I cannot read) is wearing. I know some Commonwealth sailors wore these, such as with the word 'Canada' but not necessarily in white? Just wonder if you experts can amplify or confirm if you think that is what this shoulder flash probably is?

Many thanks in advance!

Default White 'title'

It is possible that this could be simply a plain white curved badge worn by upper yardsmen. These were naval ratings chosen as Officer candidates and wore this through the process. Unfortunately I do not have a date for when the insignia was introduced or a photo of it being worn but I am sure someone will help with this.

Regards
fred

Funnily enough that has been suggested elsewhere too. Interesting. Shame I can't find any proper examples of this flash either... but thank you Fred!
