Book for Royal Marine collectors
Don't know if this has been raised before but recently published by the Royal Marines Historical Society, Special Publication 41 - 'Personal Distinctions', 350 years of Royal Marines Uniforms and Insignia, by John Rawlinson. An A4 size soft cover, glossy publication of about 316 pages with over 1000 photos priced at £35 obtainable from the Royal Marines Museum. ISBN 978-1-908123-09-1.

Great buy
Thanks to pointers from the ever helpful RM/RN collector's on this forum I have purchased this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who is into Bootneck badges.
Too late to get someone to treat you to it for Christmas, so I treated myself! Not only is it brilliant on the design of badges themselves, it is also very informative about the story/history behind them. At £35 + postage it has got to be one of the best value books of its kind. Seasons Greeting to all Ray |

My copy arrived in Greece today, fantastic book, beautifully produced a must for badge collectors and historians alike. Also amazed at the price considering today's prices for specialist books.
Well done to the RM Museum. Happy New Year Sean |

Received my copy this week. Indeed a splendid book very well illustrated and excellent information. During 2014 I obtained through ebay a quantity of post WW2 cloth items including SQ badges, Band Service and badges of rank. Many of these came from Mark P one of the contributors and are the examples actually illustrated in the book and marked as (Private Collection).

Royal Marines Historical Society
Hello All
I would firmly recommend membership of the Royal Marines Historical Society to all those interested in Corps history etc. Membership fees are less than the price of this publication and as a member one received a copy free of charge. Each year a special publication is released concerning a specific aspects of Corps history and a journal is issued periodically throughout the year (four I think) - anyway - here is the link. http://www.royalmarinesmuseum.co.uk/...orical-society http://www.royalmarinesmuseum.co.uk/...orical-society John Rawlinson produced a particularly special publication for 2014 - in celebration of 350 years of the Corps. Several members of this Forum provided items/information for inclusion although John drew heavily on the Royal Marine Museum collections. This book was the result of many years work and is a most welcome addition to any serious collector/researcher/military historian's library. Mike |

Hi Guy's,
Thanks for the info and links but for the life of me I can't find the book! All I want to do is order it through the RM museum site but it doesn't appear there, that I can see?? That's why I wanted to know if someone had a link to the relevant part to order it. Is it that I have to phone them? Thanks for your help. I think it may be old age kicking in! Regards Irv |

Hello Irv (and all)
You are right - I could not see the book on the site, but hopefully the phone number in my latest link (T 023 9281 9385) should prove useful. All the best - it is worth tracking down. Mike |

John et al
I used the link to the Historical Society and found a link for application form under subscriptions but when I try to bring up the application form I get an error message each time. Is it just me or has anyone else encountered the same problem? Ray |

Hi Ray
If you go to the link for the Royal Marines Historical Society, and go to membership at the end of the telephone number is a link to download a membership form. I spoke to John Rawlinson and his book is still available from the museum and is also being reprinted. John
