Default 3 DIV HLI Offr Formation Patch

A new one to me! I don't know why the Highland Light Infantry would adopt the pennant symbol?

It is legitimate. The officers of the 17 H purchased bullion wire patches for their service dress in the UK. They were not allowed to wear these on their battle dress. They are either pennant shaped or rectangular.
I obtained a rectangular example from Capt. Murray Telford. He told me there was some angst in the officers' ranks about these, and the edict came down that they weren't supposed to wear them at all. That didn't stop the practice of wearing them on their service dress, but he related a few had to take them down, only to later put them back on.

I believe that this is the 3rd Div title that was being discussed.
Thought I would post a picture from my collection since the link is a dead end now.

Update on the 3 CID 17 H patch. The patch was actually approved in 1943, but the imposed pattern was not produced. Before the patch could be contracted the policy was changed to plain formation patches. Thus the only imposed patches were the ones purchased by the officers. They were the tablet pattern.
