Ah yes, Bear Grylls. That adventurer who served three years with the TA (Artists Rifles), never saw combat and who now chooses to tell us all how to live in the wild?

What an arse.

Thanks again for all the contributions, especially John G for his determined attempt to ID this for me, much appreciated John. Cobbled together is an interesting phrase!! I know this is 2 separate pieces, that was never the issue here, the BPBS is one piece brazed onto the crown of the top piece, if this top piece had 2 lugs I would agree with the cobbled comment but as Simon rightly said earlier the back looks right, so I'll keep searching for an ID, Phil's comment is very helpful too , thanks mate. Interesting also in Magpie's link the comments about BBS v BPBS, could be a link here, I'll report back if I find anything anyway, cheers lads,
Wilf.

I thoroughly agree and am dismayed at him being appointed Chief Scout for UK.

It'll not be long before it's Julian Clary.

A telephone call to Scout Association at Gilwell Park might help as they have,
( did have when I last called them a couple of years ago) a very switched on archivist there, but whether or not he will be able to answer this one I do not know. Possibly point us in the right direction? Just a passing thought. Contact details can be obtained from the web.

Perhaps an e-mail would be more appropriate as it doesn't put anyone on the spot and can be passed to the relevant person for consideration?

Agreed, but I could not find an email address on their web site. There could well be one but I did not spot it, hence my referring any interested persons to the web site so they can check it out for themselves.

Have also drawn a blank, the contact I used to have at Gilwell Park was Paul Moynahan - used to be the head archivist there, but its been a while since I was involved in Scouting! Had a thought though; if this is the B-P Scout Association, The Scout Association may know nothing about it. You could try the BP Scout Association: (Link Here)

[QUOTE=Wooffy........ the contact I used to have at Gilwell Park was Paul Moynahan - used to be the head archivist there.........

Paul Moynahan was the chap I had in mind, I have not tried to contact Gilwell for a few years, but in the past always found Paul to be very helpful.

I have just remembered the museum at Baden-Powell House, Kensington, London. Could be worth a try.

Edited to add: In producing a larger picture for use in further inquiries I am left wondering if the crown and the letters are in fact brazed together. Seen in the bigger picture they look separate.

Reagrds,
John
