Default 1st Bn Lancashire Volunteers Badge

Hi Guys,

I got this today from ebay and would welcome your expert opinions.

It didn't cost much so not really bothered if it's a dud, just liked the look of it.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Regards

Bill

Default Lancashire Volunteer Regiment

Bill,

It's a dud, I'm afraid. Not even a restrike, as the die is different, but a copy first produced (I think) in the 70's. Certainly there are some well struck, nicely patinated badges out there, but all only 40 years old. That said, there are some very new looking ones, too, so someone is still banging them out.

Several major "tells", such as it is a one-piece strike whilst original badges are all 2-piece. Many other details very different, too, but don't want to give evertything away.

Nice looking badge, though, and a decent gap-filler. I still have the Wigan Corps version of this badge on display, whilst waiting (10 years to date...) for a real one to come along...

Best regards,

Tim

Quite correct, don't educate the fakers!

Cheers
Jim
