Default Bays Badge

On ebay....I've never seen a Bays badge with reinforcing bar showing through front of badge....seller says it's 'bad quality control'!!!!
Looks like a bit of copper wire soldered on to me, what you think?
Certainly wouldn't reinforce in that position/

Very nice, I have a number of Bays bits, but nothing like the ebay one.
Or a Victoria one either!!!very envious.
This is my original, I served in Bays.

Seller is correct, the badge looks fine, just poorly made!

I agree, looks fine to me. Just what you might call a "Friday afternoon" made badge. Mine too is slightly down on one side.

Simon.

By the guy in India/Pakistan/China who made it a week ago.

Make no mistake this sort of quality would not have been tolerated at the time of this badges so-called-manufacture by the relevant authorities.

They woyld have received samples of what would have been supplied and it would have been checked with what was sordered.

There are lots of people out there with vested interests trying to tell the collector market that this crap is somehow genuine.

Rant over

Cheers

Default Bays Badge

My thoughts entirely Jim....I've handled loads of Bays badges...never ever seen one with copper wire showing through the front.
And I wonder what has happened to all the backing plates we were issued with....I've seen one on ebay, and we all had them.

by backing plate, do you mean the slider plate as illustrated in post 3. Have a look on the back of display cards at militara fairs, and you will find the odd one or two.

Mike

I guess that largely depends on weather you are forking out the hard earned on the badge. I wouldnt, it just doesnt have the quality for the era, but in the end its up to the collector.

My only concern is that over time these "period badges" will acquire provenance and therefore a legitimacy which they don't deserve.

Cheers

Default Bays badge

Backing plate, slider plate, whatever, until I visited this site I always refered to the 'slider' as a 'tang', we all had them,(plates) the one picture was issued to me in 46, the red backing is also the original.
There is one bid in at £9-99. and no, you can have it, I don't want it.

I have always thought this one was a transition period 1900-1902.

Hello

I have seen many examples of poorly manufactured badges and I am sure that many where issued. Here is one;

http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ictureid=68695

The correct term, I believe for a "slider" is a "vertical shank"
