Keith.
I have no answer for your query except to say that most (if not all) the Volunteer glengarry badges I have seen have been post 1881 and I guess this was about the time the lugs were changed to copper.
It is a mystery tho' why these invariably had attached crowns, while the regulars (invariably but not always) used a separate QVC and backplate.
Incidently, I find this parallel discussion on oxidisation very interesting.
Regards to all Jeff

Hi Jeff thanks for the updated post, now that you have been a little more specific ''PT crowned Garter Patern'' I feel a little more inclined to accept your view. That said there is a respected on-line dealer with a E - W brass lugged Kings Own Borderers glengarry for sale on his site.

Hi (again) Hammo
Glad to have been of some help. But you know, this is only my opinion and, unlike the Pope, I do not consider myself "infallible" on these issues.
If this guy is a respected dealer, then I guess his word (and opinion) is as good as anyone's on the forum. Now you mention it, I do believe I have seen some items on Bosleys list which have been authenticated with E-W lugs. Regards Jeff.
PS: Just as a matter of interest, I have posted Hugh King's letter (attached), the underlining and comments in red are mine. J

I have two glengarry badges to the 22nd, the first I bought about twenty years ago from a well known dealer. It has copper lugs, East to West and I paid quite a bit for it (now you can get one on ebay for £15). The second I bought off the same dealer about two years later, brass lugs North to South, I wish I had read this info then, but that's what the Forum is all about.
