Default "flat" loops (lugs)

Has anyone come across a flat (often pentagonal shaped) loop - very similar to that found on shoulder titles,
... but on a (cap) badge - actually, seen on a Lpl Scottish 1908 pattern Gengarry badge.
It usually has the classic stalked ring, even a D ring.
(I know that they had the same badge for the sporran but that had screw posts)

Why this type of loop - any ideas ????

thanks
Julian

I've seen a few of these before. Royal Scots, Black Watch WW1 and only the other day I received a Rifle Brigade Militia officers pattern fsc or collar with them. I'm surprised they weren't used more often as stamping them out of flat brass or copper sheet is a lot less labour intensive than wire forming loops.

I've never seen shoulder title 'spade' lugs on a cap badge though.

I am having troble wrapping my brain around what the lugs look like as described in the first post. This was the only style, other than the formed lug type, that I could think of.

Well, here goes - my poor photography combined with computer challenges.
Firstly the view of the back of a 1908 pattern Lpl Scottish (two piece construction) - hopefully showing the fixings I'm on about. AND a close up of the fixings in question (excuse the blutack !).

Julian,

After some searching I have one - on a Royal Scots badge collected in WW2. I will take a photo. It is round in shape but the sides are flat as if it has been punched out of a sheet of metal rather then formed with wire in the normal way.

Thanks all ,BUT we still don't seem to have answered the question WHY.
Keith pointed out - and Alan and Admin have shown - that these things appear to be ?exclusively on Scots (Glengarry) badges, none have been seen on a 'cap' badge, So, one wonders therefore if there was something about the Glengarry that needed / required (?) these fastenings - OR were they to be fastened to something else (I don't think any of the others shown were also sporran badges were they ????).
Certainly the BW and HLI ones are similar to that Canadian one that Pylon showed. (Your WG title Admin is yes, what they are USUALLY found on)

Mine is identical to the one shown above. I have always assumed that this was a makers variation rather than anything else.

(you're right; hexagonal not pentagonal - my Greek is clearly a bit rusty !)
