Default The Royal Gurkha Rifles [Pipers]

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have any images of the modern post 1993 Royal Gurkha Rifles [Pipers] badge?

Although not found in official doco it is known to be worn and I am interested in seeing an example of one that has been regimentally sourced.

Dimensions a bonus as are images of slider/lugs etc.

Regards,

Chris

Default RGR Pipers Badge

Hi Chris , it's 5 x 4.5 cm whereas the normal cap badge is 3.5 x 3 cm. I've attached a couple of photos for interest together with some photos of the Pipe Majors plaid brooch and the Pipers plaid brooch for comparison. Tim

Tim,

Thanks for the images!

Here is one that I picked up last week.

As part of my research into modern badges I 'have to' buy pieces that I am sure are knock offs to say the least. However, these remain important as a record and show that even the most modern of items are faked.

The one I have measures just 46mm by 40mm so is a lot smaller than yours.

It is chromed and quality is excellent.

It even has a 'makers' mark of oversized 'F&S'. However, the lugs are not those found on Firmin badges. Dunno wot Firmin would say about this...

See images.

If anyone has one for sale that came from the Gurkhas then I would be delighted to hear from them. I have most of the modern (1993 onwards) Piper's badges but still missing this one and two others being:

Royal Corps of Signals Pipes and Drums Band
Irish Guards [Pipe Majors]

Thanks again Tim!

Regards,

Chris

Chris, the one I have matches the illustration and description in Hodges book on modern insignia - I believe all of the insignia he illustrated in the book were directly sourced from the Regiments. Tim

Thanks Tim,

Yes, I have been in touch with Hodges for a while now and he has been very helpful to me. The badges from his book (including PRI, regimentally sourced pieces, etc.) all came from serving members or directly from stores.

Regards,

Chris
