I don't know how old the badge is - Army Scholarships are still going - but I've certainly never seen one before which may or may not date it post-seventies. I'm sure someone can give the badge an approximate date from its construction.
At a SWAG I'd assume the brassard was worn by Army Scholars when they were on visits to Regular Army units. But all my training as an Army scholar was adventure training/outward bound and no-one was issued uniform until SMC. The brassard may have been a bright idea from someone in the head shed that was ignored and forgotten. I'm sure some kind soul will enlighten us. |

It was worn by cadets of the ACF and CCF who had passed Army Officer Selection Board who were awarded a bursary by the MOD for their sixth form or university studies. I last saw one being worn by a CCF Cadet circa 2008

The badge was officially approved by the Army Dress Committee in February 2020, for those cadets who have been awarded an Army Scholarship by the Army Scholarship Board.
Maybe it had previously been missed off their list. Marc Wanted
